Main Function

The Director Finance is responsible for financial and accounts management and reporting, as well as logistical and general administration matters of the Airline. He/she will be expected to provide leadership and coordination in the administrative, business planning, accounting, treasury management, financing and budgeting functions of the Airline. He/She will be required to develop, maintain and implement an effective corporate financial management system that is technology driven and will provide internal controls and financial reports to the board and senior management across the airline.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Director Finance will take complete financial responsibility for the business and provide comprehensive reporting of all financial activity. He/She will contribute to the strategic leadership of the company business and assume primary responsibility for all financial activities, ensuring good financial health and effective working capital management of the airline. 

Reports to: The Chief Executive Officer

In particular, he/she will:

  • Administer and control, under the supervision of the Chief Executive Officer, all funds of the Airline, in accordance with the Company laws, regulations and policies.
  • Maintain accounts of all incomes and expenditure of the Airline in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), as well as in line with the Public Finance and Management Act 2015 and other relevant company regulations. 
  • Under supervision of the Chief Executive Officer, be accountable for the regularity and propriety of the expenditure of funds applied in line with the budget, or any other provision of the Company, and for all resources received, held or disposed of by or on behalf of the Company. 
  • Under the supervision of the Chief Executive Officer, ensure that adequate control is exercised over the incurring of commitment, and that effective systems of internal control and internal audit are in place and functional.
  • Oversee, monitor and evaluate the revenue generating functions/centers of the Airline
  • Produce Monthly Management Information packs which will include operational and financial data, route profitability and related airline performance aspects. 
  • Develop Financial control and reporting across the airline covering all cost and profit centres
  • Develop and put in place systems and procedures for revenue accounting and control across the airline
  • Develop budgets and ensure compliance with budgetary reporting requirements.
  • Manage all financial functions including planning, budgeting, control, accounting, treasury, project finance, risk management and insurance.
  • Recommend required business actions/solutions to address financial and business-related issues for implementation.
  • Ensure compliance with international accounting standards and prepare financial statements for audit.
  • Approve and coordinate changes and improvements in automated financial and management information systems for the company. 
  • Develop and implement finance, accounting, billing, and auditing procedures.
  • Interact with other managers to provide consultative support to planning initiatives through financial and management information analyses, reports, and recommendations.
  • Ensure records systems are maintained in accordance with generally accepted auditing standards.
  • Support the growth of the airline operations and ensure financial goals are achieved in a financially orderly and disciplined manner.
  • Ensure that all the other departments and offices of the Authority are financially, administratively and logistically facilitated to execute their functions in a timely manner at all times.
  • Co-ordinate the preparation and production of the Annual Report on the Activities of the Authority for submission to the Airline Board through the Chief Executive Officer.
  • Prepare periodic reports on the performance and implementation (i.e. monitoring and evaluation) of the approved Budget of the Airline.
  • Enforce staff rules and regulations, and also ensure that the morale and motivation of all Airline employees are kept high.
  • Assist the Chief Executive Officer in preparing and submitting to the Board, periodic reports of the functioning of the Airline, including performance, achievements, challenges/problems and proposals for the way forward.
  • As and when necessary, ensure compliance with the Airline’s Board Resolutions and Directives by all the staff of the Airline.
  • Assist the Chief Executive Officer in monitoring the acquisition, distribution, storage and maintenance of an up-to-date inventory, of all the Airline property.
  • Ensure periodic inspection and monitoring of the performance of contractors, to ensure that maintenance of Airline offices, office equipment, furniture and fittings is done to required standards.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Professionally qualified chartered accountant, ACCA, ACA, CPA, or equivalent qualification in Finance.
  • 10 years airline management /aviation experience with at least 5-7 years in similar management role in a commercial airline
  • Hands on role and candidate must be able to demonstrate not just the ability to produce accounts, but also airline financial and other system implementation, 
  • Must be able to motivate, coach and train other staff to perform their roles.
  • Sound business judgment, a high degree of personal motivation, and very strong work ethic.
  • Seasoned and experienced Aviation Finance Executive
  • Highly ethical individual with honesty and integrity
